The New Jersey Alliance of Family Support Organizations (NJAFSO) champions the Family Movement by empowering local Family Support Organizations (FSO) to deliver high-quality, community-based services designed to elevate family voice across child-serving systems of care. As a family-led organization, our core initiatives include:
- Peer-to-Peer Support: Providing training and technical assistance to New Jersey's fifteen Family Support Organizations (FSOs) to deliver intensive, one-on-one peer support within the home and community. Delivered by trained family peer specialists with real-world experience, this support offers personalized guidance, continuous caregiver education, and hands-on advocacy. By walking alongside families navigating complex mental, behavioral, or emotional health systems, FSO's help parents build confidence, access essential services, and achieve long-term family stability.
- Community Resources: Strengthening local communities by providing local FSOs with the tools, training, and operational support needed to host accessible public programming. This includes facilitating free educational workshops, launching support groups, organizing inclusive family-focused events, and maintaining accessible warm-lines for immediate emotional reassurance and resource navigation. These initiatives create safe spaces where families can build supportive networks and overcome isolation.
- Youth Partnerships & Leadership: Developing meaningful pathways for youth involvement while building strong, balanced partnerships between parents and professional care providers. By elevating youth voices, this initiative trains young leaders to actively participate in their own care decisions, mentor peers, and contribute to organizational policy. Simultaneously, it fosters collaborative environments where caregivers and child-serving professionals work as equal partners to design effective, individualized support strategies.
- Systemic Change: Leading statewide advocacy to transform policies, eliminate barriers to care, and elevate the family voice across child-serving systems. Through coordinated statewide outreach, regional conferences, and direct collaboration with government agencies, local advocacy efforts are connected to state and national platforms. This collective representation ensures that real-world family experiences directly shape legislative decisions, funding allocations, and system-wide practices.
